Chapter 78:

Summary:

Bard and Kara are trapped in the deepest parts of the castle's drainage system. The two then sees a staircase at the side. Amazing...

Bard tells Kara that the kings probably didn't even know that there was a stairwell at the catacombs. They emerge to an underground town. Bard wonders if this is a facility.

The two quickly starts a fire to get warm.

Bard then notices that Kara's clothes is sticking to her body because they got wet. Bard instructs her to cover up with his coat. Kara tells him that it's fine. Bard however insisted and decisively puts it on her. This is when they reconcile from their little spat a few months ago. Kara apologizes about what she said and tells him she was being self-righteous.

Bard notices that he is bad at talking with Kara. She has piercing eyes that makes him want to talk more.

The two explore the ruins a little bit.

Suddenly, a huge boulder threatens to drop down on Kara from overhead. Bard saves Kara but because of it, he twists his ankle. Bard proposes that Kara walk alone back to the top and send someone to get him from there.

Kara apologizes and promises to get back.

While alone, Bard reminisces about Sheila. He then sees an apparition of Sheila. Sheila reaches down to him and Bard holds her hand so he can be taken away.

It turns out to be Kara's hand though. Bard collapsed and seems to have hallucinated.

Kara came back and wasn't able to call for help. She decided that she wants to take Bard with her. Kara tells him that she doesn't want to look away. It feels like he's going to disappear.

Bard is then reminded of Sheila, about she moves like an apparition that is going to disappear any second.

Bard stops and grasps her at her shoulders, "You were reborn?" He implies that maybe Sheila was reborn as Kara. Kara is confused.

Bard then goes on to talk. Maybe he was the only one who was holding on to Sheila for so long. As people started to forget her, he had hung on. As people told him to move on, he did not. Sheila will probably tell him to stop thinking about useless things, Bard says.

"That can't be helped," Kara says. Kara tells him that it's fine to love Sheila another 20 or 30 years. If he forces himself to move on, he'll just get some problems. He can keep Sheila alive in himself. People move on at different paces.

The two then continue to climb to the top, with Bard leaning on Kara because of his twisted ankle. Bard then apologizes about what he said before. Kara is not a cold person.

Kara thanks him.

They continue to move up as Bard thinks that there are not a lot of women like Kara. He feels his heart and then thinks, "this is bad."
