Yume no Moribito Summaries for Chapters 1-2

I am actually writing this post as I read the manga. Saving a draft until it is actually published.

From MangaRock, I got a quick background for Yume no Moribito:

"In a certain village, in a certain cave, lies a young girl that has been sacrificed. A certain mysterious man comes to her rescue."

There's certainly a lot of mystery in it. You could tell by the use of the word "certain" multiple times. xD

A calm sensei drags an intern to a remote shrine located in a cave. He is intent on finding something. He hints that he has been there before as nothing has changed and superstitions still influence the place.

Once every 50 years, a virgin is sacrificed to the god in that cave. They climb up a mountain and are even stopped by an old woman, warning them that they can't go.

As they climb, scenes from 8 years ago is seen. There was a 10-year old girl named Yume. She was the latest one sacrificed to the rock god. She was an orphan who was given to a distant relative. Even that relative didn't want her though. Knowing that she doesn't have any power to do anything, she willingly allows herself to be the sacrifice.

When she got in front of the cave, she meets Sensei. He was younger then and was still an apprentice for his father. They looked like they were healers. His father went inside the cave first but eventually came out, shaking his head.

At this time, we learn that Sensei's name is Hichirou. He has the power to read minds when he hugs them. Hichirou, after giving Yume a hug, decided to save her. He could not fight the rock god at that time though and put a supernatural spider (a shinigami) inside Yume. That way, Yume will remain alive, merely sleeping, when the rock god claims her body.

Sensei and his companion arrive.

It turns out that Yume is still inside the cave! She is indeed sleeping but she has grown into a beautiful, young woman throughout the years.

Sensei apologizes that it took 8 years of preparations for her to wake up. He tapped into her mind and told her that she needs to express her deepest desire, something she was not able to do years ago. That is the only way to break the rock god's spell.

An old woman tries to stop them but Sensei ignores her.

Sensei orders, "wake up!" and dozens of black butterflies appear, surrounding them.

Yume wakes up, and mumbles her deepest desire, "Please save me."

Yume finally breaks free.

The spider Sensei left with her was taking its time catching all the black butterflies and that's why it took so long to return. The old woman also turned out to be a ghost, the woman before Yume. Her spirit never moved on. Once Yume broke free however, her spirit was able to move on. 

Sensei carries then carries Yume away from the cave.

That is how this manga starts. The plot is intriguing. The graphics is also incredible. This is certainly one of those things that will keep you wanting for more. And so without further ado, here are the spoilers.

Chapter 2: 

The companion's name is Aoi and is helping Yume to adapt to her new situation. Yume aged and became a beautiful 18-year old woman. Yume lives with Aoi and Hichirou-sensei.

Hichirou-sensei is a popular healer/exorcist. While there, Yume herself witnessed many clients pleading for his help. A lot of them are getting rejected though. lol

Yume is being taught at home to get her updated to what she missed in the last 8 years. She however does not like to sleep. She does not sleep at all actually. Every time she drifts off to sleep, there are black butterflies and a fluttering noise. She feels like she'll plunge back into the 8-year darkness, where her consciousness had to spend that time all alone, in darkness, and surrounded by the black butterflies. She was so happy when Hichirou-sensei finally came back.

Hichirou-sensei told her that she could call help anytime and that she could rely on her. But she didn't.

At her weakest though, Yume ended up in Hichirou-sensei's embrace and relaxed to sleep. In her consciousness, she could see the butterflies. She was reminded that her mother never came back for her and so, sensei will not come as well. Outside her consciousness, all the glass windows near them broke. That is when Hichirou-sensei appeared in her consciousness, surrounding the both of them in light. Yume can now sleep well after that.

Hichirou-sensei was thinking deeply after that. He called the butterflies as literally coming from hell and wondered if they are as powerful as he has expected.
