CHAPTER 60:

Summary:

"I'm the Sun King, Livius the First," Livius declares to a horrified Jishin.

Livius apologizes that he couldn't divulge his secret before and asks that he be able to meet the witch Cassandra.

Jishin tears up and falls to the ground, unable to believe that he fell for a man. Livius asks if he cares about him being the Sun King and Jishin screams that he doesn't care about his background. He just can't believe that he seriously fell in love with a man.

"Give me back my Bianca!" Jishin cries.

When Jishin settled down, he tells Livius that he's not helping him because he tricked him. Livius argues that Jishin also tried to trick him and they just fight.

Jishin then notices that Livius looks pale. Livius tells him that it was just anemia as he silently grips his bloody hand at his side.

They then hear the masked stranger and quickly hide. They believe that staying there would be dangerous and planned to leave the forest. The quick path however to head out is already covered by miasma by that time however. Jishin suggests that they take the other path that leads deeper into the forest.

While walking, Livius is able to observe a whirlwind of miasma down below. Jishin explains that if a person comes in contact with it, he will suffer absolute memory loss.

As they proceed to walk, Jishin explains how he felt that the forest is his hometown and that he organized the gangs there to protect the forest and save it from the nobles. Jishin tells him that he has decided to tell him these because Livius has earlier said that he doesn't want to deceive him anymore. Now, that he has laid out his cards, Jishin wants to know Livius' story. Why was he seeking Cassandra?

Livius tells him that his wife Nike was poisoned and that the only way to save her is to ask Cassandra.

At that point, the two notices the masked stranger below. The forest was covered with oil and the masked stranger was trying to light a fire.

Livius slides down to where the masked stranger is and restrains her. He asks what she is doing and to what aim. The masked stranger answers that her mission was to help Livius get to Cassandra and that when Livius is almost there, to smash his dreams. She then throws a dagger with a lit gunpowder on it to the trees. An explosion ensues.

The explosion does not affect much the forest but it resulted Livius' clothes, as well as the masked stranger's, to be on fire. Jishin shouts to Livius to head towards the bottom of the valley and run without stopping. Livius follows and carried the masked stranger with him. Jishin tells Livius to leave her but Livius insists that he still wants to ask her some questions.

Jishin runs to the bottom of the valley and suddenly stops. In front of him was a wall that looked like miasma at first. He then immediately figures that it is just a wall of mist and jumps, going straight into a body of water. When he swims out with the masked stranger, he finds a house.

A woman then goes out to greet him.

It was the witch Cassandra. They finally meet.

CHAPTER 61:

Summary:

Livius is amazed that the witch Cassandra is actually a young woman and not an old hag.

Cassandra explains that she has been waiting for him as an owl perches on her shoulder. She tells Livius that she knew when he left the castle and that he was there to ask a remedy for Nike.

Livius is more amazed that Cassandra knows everything.

At this point, Cassandra loudly laughs.

She tells him she was just joking. All her information came from Ratcliff. Apparently, Ratcliff sent a message via a pigeon that Livius would be coming and explained the circumstances.

Suddenly, Jishin appeared with a dark aura. Trembling at his hands, he asks Cassandra if she knew long before that his Bianca was a man. When Cassandra slowly says yes, Jishin calls her an evil hag. Cassandra punches him cold. Now, Livius has to carry both the masked stranger and Jishin inside the house.

Cassandra welcomes Livius and calls the house as the "Witch's Cabin." Livius looks interestingly at a tree growing right in the middle of the house. Its trunk already houses an owl.

Livius quickly changes into new clothes and the stranger is given medicine. The stranger is indeed a female and she was no longer wearing a mask. It got removed at the explosion. Cassandra said that the stranger will probably be sleeping for a few days. In the meantime, Livius will be placed on probation. He has to prove that he is worthy of borrowing Cassandra's power.

The first task is to clean Cassandra's very messy room. Yep, you read that right.

Meanwhile, at the Sun Kingdom's castle, Bardwin (Livius' uncle) spies on Kara getting inside Nike's room in the middle of the night. When he moves closer to check them out, he overhears her telling to a sleeping Nike that she is doing her best so that the "outcome" will not be sorrowful. However, if she does something to betray Nike, "You can kill me."

CHAPTER 62:

Summary:

Livius wakes up in the witch's den. He was on the bed and quickly notices that someone was also sleeping on the floor right beside the bed.

It was Cassandra...and she was naked.

Livius freaks out. I freak out. My sister freaks out. What does this mean?!

Jishin enters the room and Livius screams for him not to come in and Cassandra to put on some clothes.

Cassandra does not care who sees her though and was just interested into getting into the bed after sleeping all night on the floor. She tells him to switch since he is awake already.

Jishin just sees Livius crying for help as a naked Cassandra tries to get on the bed.

It was the second day in Cassandra's cottage and Livius learned something. Apparently, Cassandra goes to sleep with clothes on but strips while asleep. During the talk, Jishin gets the wrong impression that Livius forcibly strips Nike when they sleep together.

After breakfast, Livius and Jishin go to the top of the mountain to work. A previous witch before the present Cassandra must have been a curious person and built another cottage there. This is where Livius and Jishin would work all day, such as washing the laundry and Cassandra's panty and grass-cutting. This is also the point where Livius involuntarily remembers Ursula and gets into a sad and conflicting mood. He then concentrates so hard on cutting the tall grasses that he doesn't hear Jishin calling out for him. Cassandra has brought them lunches. When they find Livius, who sustained some cuts from the grasses, Livius tells them he didn't hear them calling and collapses. But not right before Livius tells them that he is very hungry.

Livius would then eat like a pig back at Cassandra's house.

Cassandra comments that when the mind is also tired as the body, the mind distances itself. Livius thinks of his mother and tells Cassandra that he is not confident that he can prevent sorrowful events from happening again. Livius then asks for advise on what to do.

Cassandra then tells him that while she is no expert, what Livius can do to relieve himself of these problems is to

"Use your body."

Livius nervously stares at her.

Oh, Livius what are you going to do?

What are you going to do?

What is the world coming into?

Cassandra boisterously laughs at Livius and tells him that Livius seems to have misinterpreted what she said in a perverse way. No, Cassandra says. Not that one.

Cassandra asks how did Livius feel after doing some housework. Livius liked it, he said. Doing some heavy work until he collapsed and eating food afterwards is great.

Cassandra then explains that, "To make a distant heart and body reconnect again, an accumulation of experiences through using your body is most effective. As a cornerstone of becoming human, it becomes a blanket that warms the heart."

Cassandra further explains that the things that are necessary are sentiments and true feelings. That is true magic, she says. At this point, Livius thinks that he understands what Cassandra means to say and remembers Nike. Cassandra adds that using your body means taking care of your body as well. Livius has to treasure himself.

Livius repeats Cassandra, "Treasuring yourself."

At least Livius understands what Cassandra is trying to say because I did not understand anything. Maybe I have to do some laundry and cut some grasses, too. *gets to the washing machine* Oh wait, I have to finish the summaries.

Livius and Jishin goes back to collect the laundry they hanged in the clothesline. Livius thinks that he finally understand what it means to feel like being closer to the world with his bare feet touching the ground and watching the linen sway on the clothesline. Livius is glad that he was able to understand it but at the same time, it made him miss Nike even more.

In the meantime, someone in some place wakes up.

CHAPTER 63:

Summary:

Back at the cottage, Cassandra is busy cooking for the next meal and test tastes the food she is cooking. She thinks that it is a bit too sweet but it must be fine for "Chibius," the name she has been calling Livius with since the day she met him. Suddenly, a girl appears behind Cassandra. It was the person who just woke up.

Outside, Jishin and Livius hear Cassandra scream and they rush into the cottage.

The little girl was hugging Cassandra. Jishin asks who the girl is and Cassandra answers that she just appeared out of the blue.

Livius suggests that they tie her up first for fear that she may be an assassin but the little girl burrows her head into Cassandra saying that she needs her mask.

It turns out the the girl is named Tsubai. From what Cassandra could deduce from Tsubai's red eyes, she must be a member of the red eye tribe that lives even further in the Northern world. Because of how the looked, they have a history of being persecuted.

Cassandra feeds Tsubai while Livius still feels distrust in her and tries interrogate her in futility. However, Tsubai tells Livius that he probably has a guess on who her master is anyway and then leaves Livius alone.

In some castle somewhere, three men talk about Tsubai and that her weakness as an assassin is eating snacks.

The men say that it would be great news if Tsubai is able to kill Cassandra. They have already sent a letter to the Lord of Tristat, who is descended from the Lord of Bera. They say that the Lord of Tristat never seemed to have been in odds with the residents of the "Forest of Illusion."

The men discuss that they have sent word that the incarnation of the Sun King, Livius, has gone to the heretic witch to ask for help. They surmise this is going to create trouble because the priests will not keep silent for this kind of situation.

Back at the cottage, Cassandra asks Jishin if he thinks Livius is ready for the real test. Jishin answers that only if Livius' task is to merely get medicine from Cassandra, he would have already proven his worth by the mere fact of finding Cassandra. However, Livius is effectively asking Cassandra to leave the forest with him to heal Nike. In order to make sure that the magic does not leave the forest, Livius has to prove his worth.

Jishin then asks why Cassandra is kind to Livius. Cassandra explains that she thought that as the King of the World, Livius must have buried his emotions real deep. However, she realizes that he has changed because he met one woman, Nike. She adds that "his true value lies ahead."

Cassandra then goes to Livius who has been sitting silently near the window. Cassandra sits next to him and Livius says that he has gone to find Cassandra to heal Nike in this journey. However, he feels that the journey has also been about exploring himself as well. He has learned about the details that keeps the world going forward. Even though he owned the world, he didn't know anything about it. He further says that while he can't say that the world is beautiful, he acknowledges that there are things in the world that makes him think of "even so." Now, he wants to think of how he would lead his government differently from what he has learned from his journey.

Jishin and Cassandra look serious.

Cassandra immediately thinks that with that, Livius has already passed the test and offers him the last and truly final test.

But first, they have to eat dinner.

Jishin looks on and silently thinks that the witch's prophecy is never wrong. If Livius passes that test, he will become a "king greater than anyone."

The back of a tall king and his scepter is then shown as the last manga panel.

CHAPTER 64:

Summary:

Jishin is leading Livius somewhere far from the cottage and tells him to be careful. When they reach a huge cave, Jishin tells Livius that they have just arrived at the "Dragon's Mouth."

Flashback to the time when Cassandra was explaining the last test to Livius. Cassandra tells Livius that deep in the forest, there is a cave called Dragon's Mouth. From there, Livius will reach the deepest part of the forest. All Livius has to do is to "make his way back." Inside that place, there is a beast. Livius has to take one of his eggs so that Cassandra can make it into an elixir. However, Cassandra warns that no one has yet succeeded into completing the mission as of that day.

Tsubai then butts in to Cassandra's surprise. They didn't realize that she was listening to their conversation.

Tsubai shares to Livius that when miasma hit her, she saw all the people she killed chasing after her. Cassandra explains to them that the miasma has the effect of creating illusions of what they fear the most. However, the cave is a special place. It is more severe than the usual miasma.

Back at the entrance of the Dragon's Mouth, Livius prepares to proceed alone. However, Shikanda, the owl living with Cassandra suddenly perched on Livius. The owl seems to want to go with Livius. Jishin says that since Cassandra didn't say anything about bringing an animal along being prohibited, he guesses it would be fine.

As Livius walks into the cave, Jishin calls to him, "Livius, don't die."

"Leave it to me," Livius replies as he waves his hand.

Livius found the inside of the cave hot and filled with stalagmites and stalactites. There were also bats hanging on the ceiling and rats scurrying on the ground. He thinks to himself of how he hates animals and that the only animal he was able to endure is his horse Raomedon.

Suddenly, he realizes that he has only been going in circles. After a while, tired and frustrated, Livius rests on some rocks. Immediately after however, he notices something odd in one of the rock walls. He removes one small rock and then another and then finally, he moves a slab of rock to the side. Inside it is an entrance to what looks like some ancient ruins. Its walls were decorated with statues. As Livius climbs down the stairs, he surmises that there must be a link between the witch's ancestors and the ancient civilization there.

Finally, Livius reaches the next floor.

In front of him is a dark room.

The owl suddenly flies inside it leaving Livius all alone now.

Livius is perplexed but decides to go inside the room. However, before he could do anything, something dropped on his back, making him cry out. When he reached out, he found his left arm wrapped with a poisonous snake. He instinctively threw the snake in front of him along with the lantern he has been carrying. The lantern dropped right near him. But Livius will discover that the room in front of him was littered with poisonous snakes. It was so full of poisonous snakes that you barely even see the floor.

Livius immediately picks his lantern up and backs away, trying to figure out if there's another path to the deepest part of the forest. However, the snakes suddenly moves towards him, rooting Livius to his place.

Livius then remembers the smoke bombs Cassandra gave him through Jishin. He also figures out that the way the owl went to probably is also the way he should pass. With that, Livius lights a smoke bomb using his lantern and throws it in frontont of him. As he hoped, the snakes moved away from the smoke bomb. Livius then uses all his smoke bombs to create a path for him and reach to where the owl went.

As he was about to escape the snakes however, a huge snake hang from the ceiling and moved its head to Livius shoulders. Livius froze.

At this point, Livius remembers an advise given to him when they  they found out that he was afraid of snakes. Think of a woman's breast, they said.

And so, Livius did. He imagined Nike's breasts until the huge snake eventually left Livius. Back at the castle, a sleeping Nike would blush.

Livius was able to leave the room full of snakes and reach the next flight of stairs. The owl rejoined Livius.

Livius studies the stairs. This time, it looks like he'll be going to the surface.

Livius was surprised to what he saw at the top of the stairs. It was indeed the exit to the cave. However, while he expected it to be night and sinister, the outside was in full daylight and looked like a beautiful and magical garden. In the middle of the garden is a huge nest, maybe the size of a car. Inside the nest are some eggs. Livius quickly climbs up and takes one egg and places nd pit inside his bag.

As Livius was about to go back, he hears a voice.

"You can't do that Livi."

Livius couldn't believe his ears.

"It's not good to take other people's things. Didn't I teach you that?"

It was the voice Livius wanted to hear once again hundreds of times. No, thousands of times. Ten thousands of times.

Livius lifts his head to look at the woman in front of him.

"Sheila," Livius managed to say.

Meanwhile, back at the Sun Kingdom, Bardwin  decides to clarify what he heard from Kara and invites her to to have dinner with him, just the two of them.

CHAPTER 65:

Summary:

Bardwin and Kara share a fancy boat ride together as they head down to Bardwin's residence. Kara comments that it is unusual of him to invite her to dinner. Bardwin explains that it is nice to spend time like that and asks about Nike's condition. Kara answers that even though Nike looks better, she is still poisoned and thus, they shouldn't let their guard down.

Bardwin has planned to use his manly charm to attract Kara and perhaps spill the beans. He has the usual standard procedure.

Bardwin places a concerned look on his face. He asks how Kara is faring in their country. Kara answers that it was more fun than she expected. However, there are too many people and this makes her dizzy. Initially, she felt that people gave her strange looks and this made her conscious of whether she dresses weirdly. But, Kara guesses that this is how Nike was also initially perceived as well.

Bardwin gives Kara a bright smile. "It's not your dress though." He continues, "You're very attractive so isn't it natural that you draw attention to yourself?"

Kara stares at Bardwin and suddenly reacts badly like she was going to be sick. She managed to stutter, "Umm...uh...thank you very much...?"

The conversation has reached a dead end and Bardwin freaks out. How could have this happened? He is THE Bardwin. However, opposite to how he expected to react to his charms, she suddenly became uncomfortable. "Bard's Method To Open A Woman's Heart" was supposed to never fail!

Bardwin reviews his signature Method once again.

The first step in Bardwin's Method To Open A Woman's Heart is to set the stage for the right mood. Bardwin imagines Kara pouring out her heart and soul to him and Bardwin would listen to her troubles like a knight in shining armour.

The second step is to guide the conversation into an easy topic. If it flows well, just being with him should out Kara in a romantic mood.

Bardwin remembers that Kara is indeed Nike's sister after all. He remembers the painful scene when he tried seducing Nike and it fell flat on his face.

Bardwin then tries to pull himself together.

"What am I doing here, breaking down just because of that?!" he scolds himself. "I am the most charming man in the castle! I can do this."

Suddenly, water from the river was about to get splashed on Bardwin. However, Kara blocks the water with hand in time.

"Safe," Kara says. She then asks, "Are you okay?"

Bardwin is flustered and replies yes.

They safely arrive at the dock near his mansion and offers to help Kara off the boat. Kara, however, simply just hops off the boat by herself. Bardwin felt more dejected.

Kara looks up at the huge mansion in front of them.

"Is that "Uncle" Bardwin's house?"

"That's right," Bardwin says with a depressed face. "But at least call me Bard(-san)."

They enter into a double door with two imposing pillars at the side. Bardwin explains that he lives with his mother and sister there.

Right then, the two are met with a male house staff, Notten. It looks like there is an emergency.

"You're bringing another girl again?!" Notten accuses Bardwin.

"This is Nike's sister," Bardwin explains. "I'm not guilty of anything."

Before Notten could explain the emergency however, a girl in a long dress and a bow on her flowing hair appears and excitedly hugs Bardwin from behind. "Bard-sama! I've been wanting to see you!"

Bardwin turns around and looks shocked. "Ei?! Aa... Eimia-sama!!"

Eimia tears up Bardwin then demands why Eimia is there when he wasn't expecting her. Eimia retorts that she wanted to see him and made his father carry out her wishes.

Notten and Kara stand at the side. Notten explains to Kara that Eimia is a girl from Bardwin's fan club called, "Bard's Flower Garden." She is a princess from a high noble family that got infatuated with Bardwin. She has lately been intruding on Bardwin's life recently and trying to find ways to get engaged to him, such as the time she showed up when Bardwin just left his bathroom naked.

Notten also explains that it is partly Bardwin's fault because he has neither a fiancee nor a steady lover. Bardwin's mother feels that for a playboy like Bardwin, perhaps a forceful woman like Eimia would be suitable for him. A panel is then shown about the time Eimia offered Bardwin the marriage contract and trying to make him sign, even a thumbmark would do she said.

At that point, Bardwin demands Notten to help him. Notten then goes and confiscates the marriage contract Eimia has been showing to Bardwin.

"Bard-sama is shy so he didn't rebuke you," Notten tells Eimia. "However, if you are too mean, you might not be able to enter the castle." Notten holds up the marriage contract and assuages Eimia as if she was a child.

Eimia suddenly grips on both of Bardwin's arms.

"Why!?" she cries out loud. "Why is this love not reaching you!? For many years I've only had eyes for Bard-sama, and I have done my best to become a woman that would suit you, so why must you bluntly refuse these pure feelings!?"

"Pure?" Bardwin chokes out.

"Also, this dress, this hairstyle, nail color, and perfume are all compatible with Bard's taste,"Eimia cries.

"That kind of unchaste guy has a type?" someone whispers.

"I probably said something whatever before and she took it seriously," Bardwin tells that person.

"I've done all this things because I want to be earnestly loved by Bard-sama. I poured out all my efforts whole-heartedly..." Eimia continues.

Before anyone could say anything, Kara says, "Working hard to be liked is unproductive. It's best if you stop."

Eimia suddenly stops and looks at her.

"Who are you?" Eimia confronts Kara. "What did you say just now?"

Kara explains, "If your hard work to become loved is unrequited, you'll feel like you've been betrayed. You'll become even more obsessed and it will become more painful."

Eimia tries to tell Kara that she can do anything she wants but Kara calmly responds that if that happens, Eimia will only always be Bardwin's convenient woman. It's such a waste when Eimia is cute.

Bardwin intervenes at this point. He tells Kara that there is no need to be harsh and that this aspect of women makes them more lovable.

"Then," Kara seriously looks at Bardwin. "Return her feelings. If you can't even do that to her, then incomplete kindness is much more crueler."

Bardwin and Kara then enter into a heated argument with Notten and Eimia nervously watching them from the sides. Finally, Bardwin blurts out, "Why are you so self-righteous? Doing things so orderly, you're just being cold-hearted."

Kara suddenly falls silent and looks hurt.

Bardwin stops as well, watching her.

Bardwin tries to apologize. Kara likewise apologizes, saying that it wasn't her business to begin with. Kara then excuses herself and tells Bardwin that she will be returning to the castle instead.

Before he could follow Kara however, someone calls for Bardwin. Kara hasn't walked far and so she stops to listen.

Neil has called for Bardwin to return to the castle. It was about the Priest Dignitaries.

The Priest Dignitaries are apparently a powerful body. The most powerful of them is Priest-Rani Landreth-sama, who is standing in front of Bardwin then. The title Rani is only given to the top ten highest-ranking priest among all the priests. The priest that worries Neil, however, is the other priest, Lord of Tristat, Reedus.

Neil's fears is confirmed when Priest-Rani Landreth tells them why they are there. Priest Reedus has informed them that there are news of betrayal on the royalty. Another country has injured Nike and Livius has ran off to find a witch to help heal her. The Priest Dignitaries demand an audience with either Nike or Livius. However, this was only a ploy because they knew the real situation already. The priests insist that no witch shall be allowed to step foot in the capital and to ensure this they will be staying in the castle. If they are to be opposed, they will cancel the marriage approval on the marriage between Nike and Livius. Bardwin had no choice but to let them stay in the meantime. He plans to hold on until Livius arrives. They must protect Nike.

"Sheila," Livius says as he stares at the woman in front of him. "Is it really you Sheila? That's impossible because..."

"This illusion..." Livius says as he reaches out to touch her.

Solid. He was able to hold her hand.

The woman then places Livius' hand on her chest. It's warm. And there's a pulse.

Livius is confused. Sheila was supposed to have died.

In his head, he could hear her say, "Don't just decide that I'm dead."

'Is this a dream?' Livius asks himself. 'I see.... Thank God...' Thank goodness, he gives in.

"Thank goodness...." Livius says out loud as he breaks down and cries. Even after many years passed, Livius reverts back to that little boy once again.

From the corner of his mind, his logic is screaming. It's saying that it's impossible. It's saying that it can't be happening. But, emotions overwhelmed Livius. Livius grabs her, hugs are tightly, and cries, "Sheila!"

"Sheila!" Livius cries. "I wanted to see you...this whole time..."

Livius hugs her tighter. "Always... I wanted to see you one more time."

Sheila leans in and hugs him back.

"Livi," she says. "I wanted to see you."

Suddenly, the owl that went with Livius appeared. It wildy fluttered its wings as Sheila glared at it. Livius couldn't see what was happening as his back was turned to the owl.

During this time, Livius remembered about what Jishin said. In the deepest part, there is a thin layer of miasma. But this memory almost immediately fleeted away, leaving Livius to strive to remember what was it again. Why was he there again? Oh yes, he must bring Cassandra to Nike... Who is Cassandra again?

Who's Nike? he asks himself.

No matter, Livius thinks. As long as Sheila is with him...

"Sheila, I wanted to see you, " Livius tells her.

"So did I, Livi. This whole time. I wanted to meet you. I wanted to see you and ask you," Sheila starts and places her hands on Livius' shoulders. "Why didn't you save me?"
