Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii Summary for Chapter 72

Summary:

"Rani Spillaari?" One of the priests said.

"Who is he again?" another quietly asked.

"Oh, that shut in!"

"Oh, that person from the spirit department?"

"So, he's still alive."

At that point, Aristes comes in as well, to the shock of everyone once again.

"What exactly is this?" Landreth-sama asks.

Aristes was born in a village near the capital, with three siblings. Even with working day and night to support his family, Aristes' earnings wasn't enough. This was how he started his life. He was not close to his family and was only taught by the village priest on how to read and write. That is where he learned of the holy scripture. He learned on how the world came to be and how people are equals before the Sun God's eyes. He also learned of peace and harmony. He read the scripture so much that he even dreamt of saints. In his everyday life, taking care of cattle and crops, he found the meaning in the world he lives in.

"It is a pleasure to see you again Landreth-sama," Aristes tells him. "I need to speak with Reedus..." The priest Reedus looked on in curiosity.

"What is it you need to hear of Aristes-sama?" Landreth interrupts.

Spillaari then speaks up. He tells them that in all annulments of marriage, all the Rani's must be present. Hence, if Rani Spillaari is absent from the meeting, the decision they will arrive at is void. Spillaari also asks if Landreth has consulted the Head Priest about the matter of annulment. Landreth tells them that Spillaari has excused himself from the meeting so many times that he thought that it wouldn't matter if he is alerted. He also thought that the Head Priest is too sickly to be burdened with such a problem. However, Spillaari tells Landreth that this is a huge misstep for Landreth. It is the Head Priest who controls all of the priests. Next in rank are the 10 Rani's and below them are the regular priests.

Aristes then adds that the priest Reedus has tried to support noblemen thieves to put pressure on the Witch in the forest and her supporters. Aristes also asks why Reedus did not report numerous missing items and stolen taxes in the religious department after he controlled the forest area, implying that he was pilfering from the country's funds. Aristes then holds up a small notebook, saying that he has witnesses to confirm these allegations. Reedus immediately grabs on Aristes, quivering in fear.

Landreth swipes the notebook away with his hand. "You are tarnishing us!"

"So, you've finally stopped averting your eyes," Aristes said. He then tells Landreth to watch his conduct because he knows where exactly to hit him.

When Aristes was a kid, he found himself finally with no doubts. After graduating from religious studies, he proceeded smoothly to becoming a Rani. Before he was corrupt, protecting the glory of God was his pride. This is why he disliked the late King and King Livius. Aristes was dumbfounded and confused on why Nike released him from the prison. After much confusion, Aristes felt that Nike looked familiar. He then realized that Nike looked like the saint he admired when he was a kid. He was wandering in the village when Spillaari found him. It was then that he changed back to the religious person that he was just like when he was a kid.

Back in the present, Spillaari tells Landreth that he has received the approval of the Head Priest on the marriage of Nike and Livius and hence, the other Rani's might consider delaying their meeting with regards to this. Landreth then tells them that they will be facing the consequences of threatening the Rani's. Spillaari then reminds them that Aristes is no longer a priest and he himself is also a part of the royalty. Bard then gleefully chimes in that if anything happens to his brother, he will be doing everything to reform the department of the priesthood. Spillaari then still adds that the Head Priest is already too old and may be retiring soon. It may be best to choose the next Head Priest, which the other Rani's absolutely rejects because at this rate, Spillaari will be the one who will be the Head Priest.

The annulment of the marriage did not push through thanks to Spillaari and Aristes. Bard thanked them and apologized for calling him a coward before. They then asked how they got access to the Head Priest, who is heavily guarded, and Aristes mentions of a mysterious child with long hair.

"Hey, is it fine that way?" Shibai (I think this is the assassin kid from before) asks as she ate a berry while resting her head on a guy's lap. The two are in a carriage heading off somewhere.

"What is it?" the guy asks.

"About the Department of the Priesthood," Shibai replies. "After planting the seeds for them to fall into chaos, you also distinguished it on your own."

The guy explains that he needs to have Livius experience the happiness of saving his princess longer so that it will be more amusing when he topples him down.

And so, back at the castle, the king should indeed be at the peak of his happiness. Instead, he is sitting down with Nike in a room explaining himself, as two maids peeps behind the door.

"What is a concubine?" Nike asks.

Suddenly, Livius kneels on the floor and rests his head on the ground.

"Livius?!" Nike exclaims.

While prostating, Livius castigated himself for suddenly kneeling. His body just moved by itself and everything just makes him look more suspicious, as if he really cheated on Nike.

"Livi," Nike softly says. "There is a reason for it, right? Can you tell me?"

"Nike!!!" Livius wails as he suddenly hugs Nike tightly. "It's good that I chose you! It's really great!"

The maid then whispered amongst themselves how easy-going Nike is and how she didn't even suspect that Livius might be cheating on her.

Livius then thoroughly explains to Nike the situation.

"So it's a plan to deal with the priests," Nike concludes. "I didn't think that way since you and Cassandra doesn't seem to be that close."

"Yes," Livius says. "I'm sorry that I explained it to you late."

"I guess it would have been better if I had heard of it sooner," Nike sheepishly says.

"Even so, the people outside the castle would be speaking about it for a while," Livius now confidently declares as he stands up and places his hands on his waist. "The people at the castle know that it is just a setup so I guess the matter will settle itself in three years."

"Eh?" Nike exclaims.

"What is it?"

"It's nothing.." Nike answers. However, Nike is concerned that everyone outside the castle knows that Livius has a concubine. Somehow, her heart is uneasy.

"Nike," Livius says as he holds her hand. "I will as always, now and forever, always love only you. I had no choice but to use that method that time but I will never use that method again. I'm really sorry about it."

"Stop it," Nike nervously says. "It's fine. I am not angry about it. Since you saved me by doing so, I am really grateful about it. So, please don't like that, alright?"

Livius looked like he has been fighting back his tears.

He then suddenly grabs Nike and hugs her tightly again.

"Nike, I really am happy to have you as my wife," Livius says with his face buried in Nike's hair.

Outside, the maids are dissatisfied about how easy-going Nike is. They thought she would be angrier. For them, the mere fact that Livius hid it from her is already disloyalty.

Livius heard them and his face grew red with embarrassment. He shouts for them to leave.

Livius then opens the door gleefully. "Gosh, for others to eavesdrop on our conversation, serves them right. Nike does not seem to be a woman who suspects as much as I thought." By chance, Cassandra and two others happened to pass by. Livius declares to them, "For the girl I chose is different, as expected of the brilliant me!" He then calls for Nike, who is still inside the room.

Nike broadly smiles like an innocent kid. "Yeah, sure, sure."

Cassandra comments that this is dumb and Kara agrees.
