Spoilers on "Bitter Virgin"

This manga is not the usual plot you will find in most shoujos.

Suwa Daisuke  took it personally when his classmate Aikawa Hinako recoiled from his touch although he knows that she is like that with all the males. He then declares that she is the only girl that he still not bother pursuing.

Later, he was hiding at a reputed haunted church when he recognized Aikawa headed to his direction. Quickly, Suwa hid himself more at the confessional. When Aikawa heard the noise, Suwa told her that he is the priest there. Suwa has his face covered by the screen and that is why Aikawa didn't recognize him.

Aikawa then proceeded to confess. Suwa initially thought that it might be something trivial.

To Suwa's horror, it turned out that Aikawa had been raped by his stepfather. Both times ended in pregnancy. The first one was aborted while the second one was given away for adoption.

This was when Suwa realized why Aikawa recoiled from men's touch. Grin then on, he became sensitive of her. This sensitivity would later turn out to be love as Aikawa grew to be trusting in him. Apparently, she also heard Suwa's prior declaration that she is the only one he would not pursue in class and this made her relaxed around him.

The more the two spent together, with Suwa protecting her, the more Aikawa became attached until finally, she realized that she likes Suwa.

However, Suwa has been manipulated into a relationship with a very jealous girl named Kazuki. This forced the two to keep their relationship as platonic. Well, that and the fact that Kazuki is a psycho. She bullied Aikawa, tried to hurt her with a scissor, and pretended to have raped by Suwa which Aikawa immediately refused to believe.
 

Eventually,  Suwa confessed his love, thinking that he was only talking to Aikawa in a dream. It was when Aikawa ran away that he realized that he had confessed to her for real and he wasn't dreaming!

The next day, Aikawa tells him it's okay and confesses to him too.
 

At this point, Suwa's female best friend,  Yuzu, found out about Aikawa's dark secret. Aikawa was talking to Suwa's elder sister Izumi with Yuzu overhearing their conversation, perhaps not on purpose though.
 

Izumi had returned to the hometown pregnant. She had an affair with a married man and planned to raise the baby on her own. However, the child died at childbirth. Aikawa was trying to comfort her and Suwa secretly wished that talking with each other would alleviate the pain. When Izumi tells Aikawa that she could not possibly understand age was going through, Aikawa told her that she understands because she gave birth to a child herself but gave away the baby. She didn't tell her about the rape and the fact that she also had an abortion.

Thinking that Suwa shouldn't get involved in that kind of a girl, and also because she always had an unrequited love for Suwa,  Yuzu decides to tell Suwa that Aikawa had a child and she gave  it away. Before Suwa could react, they notice that Aikawa was right behind him. Aikawa tells him that it's true and runs away. Suwa runs after and confesses that he has always known. He told her that he knows everything because he was the one in the confessional.

This backfires on him.

Aikawa couldn't take that Suwa knows everything. She had always wanted to keep the rape and abortion to herself. In her mind, Suwa is already judging her even if it's not true.
Things get worse when Kazuki overheard what Suwa and Aikawa has been talking about. She forces Suwa to go on a date with her in exchange for her silence. Suwa, wanting to protect Aikawa' privacy, agrees.
 

After a while though, Kazuki lets him go because she felt that she could not get through Suwa given the circumstances. But, she still felt that Suwa and Aikawa would be facing problems down the road because of what Aikawa has gone through. And when they split up, she'll be waiting.
 

When Aikawa got harassed by a jilted suitor therefore (actually this is the second time Suwa had to save her from rape), Kazuki casually alerted Suwa who immediately ran to where Aikawa is. Suwa successfully thwarts the harassment and Aikawa hugs him. It was then that they kiss in earnest.
Phew. Man, Aikawa's history is really heartbreaking and it was good that she met Suwa who was willing to accept everything about her.

This manga is not your typical romance stories and I recommend it for those looking for something for an emotion infused story.
