Thoughts on 'Lovers In Conflict' manga
'Lovers in Conflict' actually contains two stories. Chapters 1 to 3 is the title story while Chapter 4 is a bonus, entitled 'Crown of Thorns.'
'Lovers in Conflict' is a one-shot manga. It is about a high school girl named Sagiri, whose older sister runs away to escape an arranged marriage. Four hours before the wedding, the groom Soushi tells the family that it is alright to substitute Sagiri instead. The groom is 24 years old.
Sagiri is quite tomboyish and insecure. She tries to act like a man every time she resents Soushi's comment. Soushi, for some reason, is incapable of expressing his feelings except through making love.
Eventually, both grows to like each other.
I thought that the plot was uncreative and average. It could have been better.
Rating: 3/5
Chapter 4, 'Crown of Thorns' is about a blind girl named Mimori. She is cared for by her older brother Kuzuhara. One day, a student of Kuzuhara visits and becomes attracted to Mimori. Imoto gives her a book, 'Crown of Thorns,' and tells her he would like to read it to her.
For some reason, her brother seems irritated although he did allow Imoto to continue with the visits. Imoto appears to make Mimori curious of the outside world though and Kuzuhara is forced to stop Imoto from visiting. Imoto asks why Mimori is not allowed outside and he compares her to the Princess of Thorns. Kuzuhara tells him that if her movements are not restricted, she will die.
This does not deter Imoto from visiting again and invites Mimori to walk outside without Kuzuhara's permission. At the gates though, they meet Kuzuhara.
Kuzuhara retrieves Mimori and bounds her to the bed. He tells her that he wants her inside the house because he does not want to share her with others. He knows that it is not right for him, as her brother.
At that point, Mimori confesses that she is not blind.
It was true that she became blind after her fever but her eyesight came back after two weeks. She continued pretending she is blind because she likes Kuzuhara touching her. She has begun to change her mind and release her brother because Imoto said it is not good to bind others.
Still literally bound to the bed post, Mimori asks Kuzuhara what he intends to do now.
They commit incest.
When Imoto comes back, Kuzuhara hands him a manuscript (apparently, he is a writer). It was a revised version of the Crown of Thorns. In the story, the princess wants to remain in the castle covered with thorns.
I am so shocked and dumb-founded that I can't think of a comment right now.
